Overview
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is not an anabolic steroid but is a natural protein hormone with similar characteristics as the Luteinizing hormone.This hormone stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone.This substance is used to increase the bodies natural testosterone levels, causing similar effects to anabolic steroids. Today however but it is mainly used as a tool to help maintain muscle mass at the end of a steroid cycle. The intake of steroids over a long periods of time will cause a negative feedback on the hypothalamohypophysial testicular axis, in short the body stops the production of testosterone due to the high levels cause by the use of steroids.When the use of steroids is stopped, the resulting drop in testosterone levels in the body causes rapid loss of strength and muscle. By using HCG this problem is reduced. HCG is also effective in the treatment of testicular atrophy, helping the testicles to return to their normal size quickly. It is important to note that HCG does not restore the negative feedback on the hypothalamohypophysial testicular axis, therefore the simultaneous use of Clomid is advised.

Side effects
HCG should be taken for short periods of time and with long interval periods. The reason for this is that HCG can cause desensitization in the testes and this may cause permanent damage. Other side effects are similar to anabolic steroids.

Dosage
1500IUs every 5 to 7 days, for no longer than 3 weeks.
