Fellow Bodybuilders
After reading the news papers and listening to the radio the last couple of weeks regarding the use of anabolic steroids we as bodybuilders have decided to initiate a association called BASS (Bodybuilders Against Steroids in Schools). The problem with steroids is that as soon as the word gets mentioned people automatically think of bodybuilders. And as responsible bodybuilders we would like to acknowledge the fact that we do not agree with school boys taking anabolic steroids.
As a 40 year old adult male I am not against the use of anabolic steroids seeing that I use it myself. I am however against the use of anabolic steroids by school children. When a school boy who is not fully developed uses anabolic steroids it stunts the development of his natural testosterone axis and therefore he will never develop fully. If a adult male uses anabolic steroids after fully developing his HPTA axis the side effects are temporary and after he stops his body will return to the mature form it was before he started using it. For a boy there is nothing to return to because he was not fully developed in the first place. This stunts his development and will cause problems later.
The idea with starting a initiative like BASS would be for bodybuilders to visit schools and educate the school boys as to why they should not use anabolic steroids at such a young age. To then educate the school children on the correct supplementation, diets and training programs that will form part of a sustainable life style that will benefit them when they are adults one day.
I would like to get a supplement company like Supplements SA involved in such a initiative as well as a couple of well known bodybuilders to help with these seminars.
